Batam

Batam is on one of the 17,504 islands within Indonesia archipelago. It is the largest city in the size is about 1,595 km2 consists of 715 km2 land and 880 km2 water. “Terwujudnya Batam Sebagai Bandar Dunia yang Modern dan Pusat Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Nasional” (The realization of Batam as a modern world-class city and a centre of national economic growth) is Batam moto.

Batam consists of several islands which are Batam, Bulan Rempang, Galang, Abang-Besar, Kapalajernih, and Pemping island. For Batam, Rempang, and Galang island, they are connected with 6 bridges called Barelang bridge, the first Barelang bridge is the largest among 6 other bridges, the length is 385 meters.

In 2010, Batam was the fastest-growing municipality in Indonesia the decade prior, with a population growth rate of 11% per year, the total population in 2018 was 1,329,773, an increase of 234,193 compared to the population growth five years ago. Javanese with 309,003 people is the biggest ethnic in Batam island followed by Malay and Batak ethnic. Islam is the majority religion in Batam, followed by Christians, Buddhists, and Hindus.

In 2018, Denpasar, Jakarta and Batam are among of 10 cities in the world with fastest growth in tourism, 32.7, 29.2 and 23.3 percent respectively. In 2015 over 1.5 million tourists visited Batam, the biggest tourists are from Singapore and followed by Malaysia. There are several activities that are tourists love to enjoy like Shopping, Diving, Spa, and Visit historical places.
